Job Description

A postdoctoral fellow with background in T cell immunology and/or tumor immunology is sought for studies of a gene product that our laboratory has recently discovered that restrains T cell anti-tumor functions, with exciting preclinical implications. Studies will use novel gene-targeted (flox) mice recently generated in our laboratory. The initial focus will be on in vivo anti-tumor responses, including translational adoptive cell therapy approaches and ex vivo mechanistic T cell studies. Future in vivo models may include infection with respiratory virus and/or bacterial pathogens. The successful candidate will be trained by us in any methods related to this project, as necessary. In addition, our laboratory has expertise in single-cell genomics which can be applied to this project. The successful candidate can thus also receive computational training, together yielding a comprehensive, interdisciplinary skill set. This position is in the laboratory of Michael B. Fessler, MD, Senior Investigator and Chief of the Immunity, Inflammation and Disease Laboratory (IIDL), a Branch within the intramural research program of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The NIEHS, an Institute of the NIH located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, has been consistently ranked as one of the best places to work for postdocs. NIEHS fellows enjoy an extensive training and support infrastructure with numerous career development opportunities and broad access to the resources of NIH. The NIEHS has outstanding core facilities, including next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, proteomics, metabolomics, imaging, viral vectors, protein expression, and transgenic mouse production that together offer the trainee wide latitude in the design and pursuit of their research questions. Job Requirements

Applicants must be very close to obtaining, or have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., ideally with less than 5 years of postdoctoral training. Expertise in flow cytometry and in vivo mouse studies is required. A solid background in T cell immunology and/or tumor immunology is strongly preferred, but not required.

To Apply:
For immediate consideration, applicants should email the following materials to Dr. Michael Fessler, Senior Investigator, IIDL/NIEHS ([email protected]): (i) a Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) including education/training history and bibliography; and (ii) a list of at least 3 references with email addresses and phone numbers. Any questions relating to the position can be directed to Dr. Fessler at the email address listed above.
